"What can I really expect to do with the Miracle Whip and five watts?

While the Miracle Whip doesn't really perform miracles, it's performance is 
truly remarkable.  SSB, CW, PSK and FM DX contacts are regular events 
for hams using the Miracle Whip, running 5 watts or less. Even through the worst

Critical for portable operation is ease of installation and tuning - how long it takes to get set up.  With the Miracle Whip you're on the air in seconds with no installation required.  The Miracle Whip is the only antenna - portable or fixed - that covers  HF, VHF and UHF including everything from 600 Khz up to 450 Mhz.   And you can tune and operate even without an extra counterpoise.

Remember - performance is more than signal reports, it's everything the antenna can do to  make your operating more versatile and pleasurable - more fun!  You may own other antennas, but the Miracle Whip is the one you'll use the most.

The heart of the Miracle Whip is a unique device - the C-VAT,  (Continuously Variable AutoTransformer).  It permits tuning throughout the entire HF range with a single control, achieving a match of better than 2:1 on almost all bands(**).  A reserved VHF position on the dial permits you to drive the whip directly and adjust it for frequencies from 50-450 Mhz.

Because of the continuous tuning, the Miracle Whip can be tuned in most cases without any additional counterpoise. Most small or mid-size portable whips require a full-sized counterpoise for proper operation.  In other  words, if you want to use one of the competition's short whips on twenty meters, you'll need to set up a sixteen-foot counterpoise. 

For those occasions when you're traveling light and operating just for fun, you can forego the extra wire and setup, and the Miracle Whip will allow you to operate counterpoise-free! You'll take your rig more places, use it more, and have more fun.  Now that's portable.
